The Netherlands Consortium of Dementia Cohorts has performed a meta-analysis with 8 cohort studies to investigate the associations between depressive symptoms later in life and plasma markers for Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration. The Leiden Longevity Study was one of the participating cohorts. The results are published in “The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry

The current study aimed to assess if late-life depressive symptoms were associated with plasma amyloid-beta42/40, p-tau181, neurofilament light, or glial fibrillary acidic protein. Late-life depressive symptoms were found not to be associated with plasma biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease pathology, axonal injury, or astrocytic activation.
