Tenured and Tenure-Track Biogerontology Faculty Positions: University of Michigan
The University of Michigan Geriatrics Center is seeking to hire one or more tenure track faculty members to carry out research focused on the biology of aging and the relationship of aging processes to late life diseases. We are interested in considering both new investigators, and also creative and successful mid-career or senior scientists whose research programs focus on questions related to aging. The ideal candidate would be working on a fundamental problem in the cellular and molecular biology of aging, using a mixture of genetic, bioinformatic, and biochemical methods as appropriate, and committed to establishing a reputation for creative leadership in biological gerontology.
Successful candidates will be housed in beautiful, modern Biogerontology lab space, and will receive a primary appointment in a basic science or research-oriented clinical department as appropriate. Minimum qualifications for junior faculty are a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, plus several years of highly productive postdoctoral research, as well as a clear interest in problems relevant to biogerontology. Established scientists would be expected to have an international reputation as a leader in aging research, a strong track record of extramural funding, and a reputation as an outstanding mentor.
The Center has enjoyed longstanding support from the National Institute on Aging for its Claude Pepper Center and Aging Training programs, and for its Paul Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging, all of which provide valuable infrastructure for new and established researchers. Support from the Pepper Center, the NIA
Intervention Testing Program and the Glenn Center greatly enhance the environment for aging research. Substantial start-up funding will be available for each selected candidate.
